Huasco Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><b>Highlights<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"caas-list caas-list-bullet\">\n<li>Hot Chili and its partner, Chilean iron ore company\u00a0Compania Minera del Pacifico (CMP), have established a new water company called\u00a0&#8220;HW Aguas para El Huasco SpA&#8221;\u00a0(<strong>Huasco Water<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><b>Hot Chili owns 80% of Huasco Water and CMP 20%,<\/b>\u00a0in-line with the two company&#8217;s ownership interest in &#8220;Sociedad Minera El \u00c1guila SpA&#8221; (SMEA), holder of all critical water assets for the development of Hot Chili&#8217;s Costa Fuego copper-gold project in\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Chile<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Hot Chili and\u00a0CMP underpin Huasco Water as potential foundation off-takers<\/b>\u00a0(Hot Chili&#8217;s Costa Fuego copper project &#8211; approx. 700 l\/s of future sea water demand and CMP&#8217;s Los Colorados iron ore mine &#8211; approx. 200 l\/s of future desalinated water demand)<\/li>\n<li>Copper major Antofagasta just sold 1,200 l\/s of water capacity for US$600 million compared to initial capacity of ~300 l\/s and total demand of 3,700 l\/s for Huasco Water.<\/li>\n<li><b>Huasco Water aims to develop a multi-user seawater and desalinated water supply network<\/b>\u00a0to supply future water demand for communities, agriculture and new mining developments\u00a0for the Huasco Valley region of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Chile<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Discussions underway with nearby mine developers accounting for 3,700 l\/s of potential future desalinated water demand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Hot Chili Limited\u00a0<\/b><strong>(ASX: HCH) (TSXV: HCH) (OTCQX: HHLKF)<\/strong> announced the establishment of <b>Huasco Water, <\/b>a new joint venture water company (Hot Chili 80% and CMP 20%) formed to supply both sea water and desalinated water to the Huasco Valley region of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Chile<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Huasco Valley is located in the Atacama region &#8211; one of the most water stressed regions of the world and where Hot Chili has outlined approximately 3,700 l\/s of potential future desalinated water demand from new mine developments alone (see announcement dated 26<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"xn-chron\">February 2024<\/span> and Figure 1) as well as other community and industrial sources of demand.<\/p>\n<p>A conceptual study completed by Hot Chili in\u00a0<span class=\"xn-chron\">February 2024<\/span>\u00a0(see announcement dated 26<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"xn-chron\">February 2024<\/span>) outlined significant economic, environmental and social synergies for all potential customers in the Huasco Valley, especially given growing community and regulatory opposition to continental water extraction in the Atacama, and the long lead times involved in securing maritime concessions and associated permitting in\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Chile<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer of water assets (previously held by SMEA) into Huasco Water has commenced and the new water company will soon hold the only active granted maritime water concession and most of the necessary permits to provide non-continental water supply to the Huasco Valley, following over a decade of permitting advance for Hot Chili&#8217;s coastal range, Costa Fuego copper-gold project.<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, Huasco Water provides Hot Chili and CMP water supply security as potential foundation off-takers (Hot Chili&#8217;s Costa Fuego copper project &#8211; approx. 700 l\/s of future sea water demand; and CMP&#8217;s Los Colorados iron ore mine &#8211; approx. 200 l\/s of future desalinated water demand.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions with other potential water off-takers are advancing well and the Company is pleased to confirm that several non-mining desalinated water customers have also been identified.\u00a0 The Company is progressing discussions with several potential Tier-1 infrastructure partners and further updates are expected.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Recent Deal in\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Chile<\/span>\u00a0Highlights Growing Trends in Water Infrastructure Development for Mining<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Hot Chili is pleased to note a recent announcement by Antofogasta Minerals (Antofogasta) on\u00a0<span class=\"xn-chron\">June 5<\/span><sup>th<\/sup>\u00a02024 in\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Chile<\/span>\u00a0(<i><a href=\"https:\/\/smartwatermagazine.com\/news\/almar-water-solutions\/antofagasta-minerals-and-almar-water-solutions-sign-15b-water-supply\">Source<\/a>).<\/i><\/p>\n<ul class=\"caas-list caas-list-bullet\">\n<li>Copper mining major\u00a0Antofagasta have sold their water assets and water rights to the Centinella copper mine for\u00a0<span class=\"xn-money\">US$600 million<\/span>\u00a0to a consortium (Transelec and\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Almar Water<\/span>), which will also Finance, Build, Own, Operate (BOO) and sell seawater for the Centinella mine expansion, aiming to increase copper metal production by 140ktpa,<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Centinella copper mine is operated using seawater for processing,<\/li>\n<li>The existing\u00a0Centinella water assets include a 144km long seawater pipeline from port to mine, which Transelec and Almar will acquire and continue supplying Centinella with approximately 1,200 l\/s,<\/li>\n<li>Transelec and Almar will build a parallel 144km long seawater pipeline using Centinella&#8217;s water rights to supply an additional 650 l\/s to Centinella,<\/li>\n<li>Antofogasta to save\u00a0<span class=\"xn-money\">$380M<\/span>\u00a0in capital expenditure for the construction of its stage 2 water infrastructure expansion,<\/li>\n<li>Centinella water expansion project will begin operations in 2026 following a 20-month construction process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The transaction announced by\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Antofagasta<\/span>\u00a0highlights the strategic nature and implicit value of critical water access rights within the Atacama region, and an increasing trend in\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Chile<\/span>\u00a0towards outsourcing in the industrial infrastructure sector.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#a2cbe4;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#bce5fe;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\">Importantly, Hot Chili&#8217;s approach toward potential outsourcing and development of shared infrastructure, in addition to preserving scarce continental water sources, is fast becoming the accepted and responsible approach for unlocking future mining developments in the world&#8217;s most prolific copper producing region.<\/div><\/div>\n<h4>Figure 1.
