{"id":19976,"date":"2019-11-08T11:42:18","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T16:42:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/capital10x.com\/old\/?p=19976"},"modified":"2019-11-08T15:40:47","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T20:40:47","slug":"activision-blizzard-atvi-q3-revenue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/capital10x.com\/old\/activision-blizzard-atvi-q3-revenue\/","title":{"rendered":"Activision Blizzard Reports Higher Than Expected Revenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ongoing controversy over <a href=\"https:\/\/capital10x.com\/old\/blizzard-atvi-overwatch-switch-legendary\/\">punishing a <em>Hearthstone<\/em> player<\/a> for supporting Hong Kong democracy protests hasn\u2019t damaged <strong>Activision Blizzard\u2019s<\/strong> [stock_market_widget type=\"inline\" template=\"generic\" color=\"default\" assets=\"ATVI\" markup=\"(NASDAQ: {symbol} {currency_symbol}{price} ({change_pct}))\" api=\"yf\"] revenue stream so far, with the company reporting higher than expected numbers today.<\/p>\n<p>That unpopular move and its backlash in the gaming community led the organizers of events for rival MOBA title <em>League Of\u00a0Legends<\/em> to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/capital10x.com\/old\/league-of-legends-warns-players-political-comments\/\">warn pro players against discussing<\/a>\u00a0Chinese politics.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the negative press, Activision Blizzard&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.activision.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/activision-blizzard-announces-third-quarter-2019-financial\">revenue numbers<\/a> for the quarter ending Sept. 30 were reported at $1.28 billion, significantly exceeding the original projection of $1.1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The company has seen a number of major releases ahead of the holiday season, such as the latest<em> Call\u00a0Of\u00a0Duty<\/em> entry, which is a reboot of the lauded <em>Modern Warfare<\/em> title originally released back in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from higher than expected sales of that PC and console game, Activision also launched a free to play mobile version of the series titled <em>Call Of Duty Mobile<\/em>, which is monetized through optional in-game microtransactions.<\/p>\n<p>On the Blizzard side, the company saw a record-breaking bump in monthly subscribers with the re-launch of <em>World\u00a0Of\u00a0Warcraft Classic<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Discussing the quarterly numbers, Activision Blizzard CEO\u00a0Bobby Kotick commented this morning:<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-quote su-quote-style-default\"><div class=\"su-quote-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"> Third quarter results exceeded our prior outlook for both revenue and earnings per share. Recent launches have enabled significant growth in the size of our audiences for our <em>Call of Duty<\/em> and <em>World of Warcraft<\/em> franchises. As we introduce mobile and free-to-play games based on our franchises we can increase audience size, engagement, and monetization across our wholly owned franchises. <\/div><\/div>\n<p>Those numbers represent a strong contrast to French developer \/ publisher <strong>Ubisoft<\/strong> [stock_market_widget type=\"inline\" template=\"generic\" color=\"default\" assets=\"UBSFY\" markup=\"(OTCMKTS: {symbol} {currency_symbol}{price} ({change_pct}))\" api=\"yf\"], which significantly <a href=\"https:\/\/capital10x.com\/old\/ubisoft-significantly-drops-financial-targets\/\">reduced its financial outlook<\/a> and reported disappointing quarterly numbers after low sales and a barrage of negative reviews for\u00a0<em>Ghost Recon Breakpoint<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the latest launches from various Activision Blizzard series, several major new additions to various franchises are expected to result in further revenue bumps.<\/p>\n<p>A sequel to the eSports dominating <em>Overwatch<\/em> was\u00a0recently announced at\u00a0BlizzCon 2019, just as the <em>Overwatch<\/em> world cup finals took place with the U.S. team defeating China in a 3 \u2013 0 match.<\/p>\n<p>Outside\u00a0of eSports titles, the long-awaited<em> Diablo IV<\/em> was also just revealed to be well into development, although no release date is currently
