Multi-state operator Columbia Care Inc.
The store will throw open its doors for the first time on Wednesday, July 3, with a busy schedule of demos, activities, and events designed to educate and entertain shoppers.
Columbia Care is a vertically integrated cannabis company and it will complete construction of a 45,600 sq. ft. production facility in California in August. This will allow it to provide a full portfolio of proprietary health, wellness, and consumer-branded products to Californians at the dispensary,
There are 3.3 million people living in San Diego and it receives more than 35 million tourist visits per year, so Columbia Care sees strong potential for its new store.
California is the world’s largest regulated market for recreational cannabis, with sales now at $5.5 billion per year.
“California is flush with cannabis operators, but none offer the service-centric, data-driven customer journey in combination with differentiated, pharmaceutical-quality health, wellness and consumer branded products that has proven so successful in our other jurisdictions,” said Nicholas Vita, chief executive officer of Columbia Care.
The New York-based firm has operations in Arizona, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. It has also expanded internationally into Malta.
Columbia Care claims to have completed more than 1 million consumer transactions and it boasts one of the industry’s largest consumer and product databases. It believes this allows it to offer shoppers a more personalized and elevated experience.
The new store will be run by San Diego native Timothy Penwell, who feels that its diverse range, CNC credit card, on-site parking, and convenient location will allow it to flourish in the city.
The plan is for the Columbia Care estate to swell to 50 stores spread across 14 states by the end of 2019. It also wholesales medicinal cannabis.
